Shopfronts of Lisbon

San Francisco

I went to San Francisco in September – somewhere I had always wanted to visit. I especially loved North Beach, Chinatown, The Castro and The Haight. There were plenty more places I didn’t make it to but at least I had a couple of friends living in the area and others who had recently visited … Continue reading

Pacific Coast

The Pacific Coast of California is incredibly beautiful. I went there on a recent road trip and met various animals, friendly people and saw plenty of dramatic scenery. We stayed at Big Sur River Inn, which I highly recommend. Lovely cabins (though apparently the cheaper ones for lots of people are not so nice) and … Continue reading

Griffith Observatory

Scenes from a recent trip to LA. I had always wanted to go to the Griffith Observatory ever since seeing Rebel Without a Cause. It’s in a beautiful park with a great view of the city (despite the smog!) I also enjoyed the mini museum with info about eclipses etc.

Santiago do Cacém

I recently went to Alentejo for the wedding of two lovely friends. It was great – there were plenty of friendly people (and dogs!) The atmosphere was fun and relaxed and there was even a pub quiz after dinner. We stayed in nearby Santiago do CacĂ©m, a lovely, sleepy little town with a castle on … Continue reading

Three days in PortimĂŁo

At the end of August/beginning of September my friend Ashley and I took a little trip to PortimĂŁo in the Algarve. We’d worked all through the summer after the academic year had ended so we were definitely ready for a break. We both had plans to travel further afield in September but decided to kick … Continue reading

The Sintra Coast

I recently went on a day trip with some friends and was pleasantly surprised to find some thoroughly magical places not far from Lisbon. First we went to Azenhas do Mar, a beautiful little cliffside town. This was the place that led me to suggest the trip when I saw a photo of it (on … Continue reading

Sintra

Sintra is incredibly beautiful. That’s what I’ve learnt over the last few months. I moved to Lisbon last September and it took me until April to visit Sintra (despite the convenient 40 minute train ride) but once I’d seen it I ended up going back another two times. I still haven’t even made it the … Continue reading
