Staithes

I recently went for a day out in Staithes with my family. I’d never been before, despite having grown up not too far away (in York). We had fish and chips at the Cod and Lobster, which I would recommend highly (and not just because I now live in Portugal and happened to be missing … Continue reading

Griffith Observatory

Scenes from a recent trip to LA. I had always wanted to go to the Griffith Observatory ever since seeing Rebel Without a Cause. It’s in a beautiful park with a great view of the city (despite the smog!) I also enjoyed the mini museum with info about eclipses etc.

Santiago do Cacém

I recently went to Alentejo for the wedding of two lovely friends. It was great – there were plenty of friendly people (and dogs!) The atmosphere was fun and relaxed and there was even a pub quiz after dinner. We stayed in nearby Santiago do Cacém, a lovely, sleepy little town with a castle on … Continue reading

Notting Hill

I recently explored the colourful streets of  Notting Hill. It’s so pretty and Portobello Road Market is well worth a visit.

Costa Nova

I recently visited the lovely Costa Nova, Aveiro (in the northwest of Portugal). I was amazed by the beautiful striped houses and thought I’d share them here. ❤

Buildings of Portimão

Before the year totally disappears, I should post these photos of beautiful Portimão from the beginning of September. Some may be rundown, but they combine to make up the magical character of the place.

Three days in Portimão

At the end of August/beginning of September my friend Ashley and I took a little trip to Portimão in the Algarve. We’d worked all through the summer after the academic year had ended so we were definitely ready for a break. We both had plans to travel further afield in September but decided to kick … Continue reading

Amsterdam, Day 4

I made the most of my last morning in Amsterdam. I got up early, said goodbye to Joseph’s goldfish and Meneer De Reiger (the heron who visits his garden on a regular basis) and headed into town with Joseph when he went to work. After that I got a coffee and drank it on the … Continue reading

Amsterdam, Day 3

On my third day in Amsterdam, Joseph was working so I was left to my own devices during the day. Despite this, he still managed to put on a great breakfast spread before work. Once in central Amsterdam, he pointed me in the direction of a secret church and I went on my way. Begijnhof … Continue reading

Amsterdam, Day 2

On my second day in Amsterdam, Joseph laid out an amazing breakfast spread for us including Dutch cheese, bread, strawberries, yoghurt, orange juice and coffee. A great start to the day… I also got to see the famed Meneer De Reiger (Mr Heron) who often visits Joseph’s garden. He wouldn’t show us his majestic neck … Continue reading
