Taormina

Taormina was a hangout for the rich and famous from the mid-20th century – see photos in the slideshow featuring Audrey Hepburn, Lana Turner etc. Between 1948 and 1999 the English writer Daphne Phelps lived there and entertained friends including Bertrand Russell, Roald Dahl and Tennessee Williams. Nowadays the elite share the picturesque streets with busloads of badly dressed tourists.

It’s the most beautiful place I’ve visited in Sicily. So good I went there twice – once with my brother and some friends and then again when my friend Paulina came to visit. I can highly recommend Le Sibille B&B as well as Osteria Rita for food.
